Head Lice Prevention

December 3, 2025

Dear MacKenzie Middle School Families,

Several cases of head lice have been reported in our school. Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat if needed. Head lice are common in group settings and cannot be completely eliminated, but early detection and treatment help control spread.

Prevention Tips:

  • Teach children not to share combs, brushes, hats, or scarves.
  • Hang coats and hats separately.
  • Avoid overnight stays during outbreaks.
  • If one family member has lice, treat the whole household.

If your child has lice, notify the school and your child’s close contacts. Treatment shampoos are available at most drug stores. Wash items that touch the scalp (combs, hats, pillowcases) in hot water or seal non-washable items in a plastic bag for 10 days.

For questions, contact the school office at 638-3323 or the Public Health Nurse at 638-2122.

Yours truly,

Mrs. C. Hockridge

Vice-Principal
